AT BIMM YOU’LL BE PART OF A CREATIVE COMMUNITY THAT GIVES YOU THE BEST OPPORTUNITY TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR TALENT AND WORK IN ONE OF

THE WORLD’S BIGGEST AND MOST CELEBRATED INDUSTRIES.

BRISTOL THEPLACE TO STUDY

MUSIC IS AT BRISTOL’S VERY CORE. BRITAIN’S FIFTH LARGEST CITY IS HOME TO INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS SUCH AS MASSIVE ATTACK, PORTISHEAD, RONI SIZE, JULIO BASHMORE AND TRICKY.

WITH 23 RECORDING STUDIOS AND FIVE MAJOR MUSIC FESTIVALS BASED IN THE AREA*, BRISTOL IS THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR YOU TO START YOUR CAREER IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.

Every night of the week you’ll hear the sound of live music across the city. From up-and-coming artists performing in Stokes Croft – home to performance spaces, open mic nights, various venues and a glorious selection of care-worn pubs that have live music whatever the season – to international acts at the O2 Academy, Colston Hall and Bristol’s famous floating venue down on the dockside, Thekla.

Bristol has hundreds of venues, bars, pubs and clubs within the city’s boundaries – and many of the bands and artists playing these venues passed through BIMM. Throughout the year the city and surrounding area hosts many music festivals, including Dot to Dot, ArcTanGent, 2000trees and Bristol Harbour Festival – and don’t forget that the legendary Glastonbury is just down the road.

The countercultural edge survives in Bristol in a very real way, with new music, art and literature being generated across the city at all times. Whether it’s a secret warehouse gig in Easton, a new underground club or VIP night on Gloucester Road, leftfield art exhibitions or pop-up graffiti shows, Bristol’s focus is on that most enigmatic of qualities: authenticity.

MUSIC PRODUCTION BA (HONS) 3332 MUSIC PRODUCTION BA (HONS)

The role of the composer-producer is key to the majority of commercial music produced today. The combined ability to both write music (collaboratively and solo) and produce it to a high standard is vital for a sustainable career in music production. The BA (Hons) Music Production degree at BIMM Bristol has been developed with these criteria in mind.

This specialist and vocational programme is designed for those wishing to pursue a career in a wide range of music industry roles, such as composer-producer, DJ-producer, sound engineer, film composer, live electronic musician or sound designer.

The course uniquely combines the creative applications and theory of music technologies with a rigorous and critical examination of the music industry. You’ll learn creative and technical music production processes across a wide range of contexts, including traditional studio recording, electronic music composition/performance, composing for moving image and immersive environments. You’ll gain a thorough grounding of the context of

contemporary music and the industry that supports it, as well as learning the personal/project management skills and business acumen required for a successful career in music production.

You’ll benefit from Bristol’s internationally famous, vibrant and diverse music scene, with hands-on learning and work in industry-standard production facilities across the city, including J & J and Multiverse Studios, who between them have recorded platinum-selling artists, produced music for Hollywood film trailers, and mixed and mastered chart-topping UK dance music. You’ll also be invited to our monthly production event at Idle Hands record shop where you can socialise and network with well-known producers, managers and label owners who’ll be on-hand to offer feedback on your tracks.

The course is taught in a creative environment where you’ll collaborate on an ongoing basis with fellow aspiring musicians, and will be guided by your expert tutors, every one of them still active in the contemporary music business.

So, what are you waiting for? To make your way in music production, connect with us, and we’ll connect you to a life in music.

PROGRESSION ROUTEGraduates can progress directly to employment in the music industry in roles such as producer, DJ, sound engineer, film and television composer and computer music designer, or they can continue their study with a BIMM Postgraduate Certificate in Further and Higher Education or a Masters Degree.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSMinimum entry requirements are five GCSEs at grade C or above (including English Language), plus two A-levels at grade C, or an equivalent Level 3 vocational qualification (160 UCAS points). Applications by experienced musicians without formal qualifications may also be considered through APEL.

Validated by Bath Spa University.

AT BIMM, WE’VE ENSURED THAT OUR DEGREE COURSE TUITION FEES OFFER EXCEPTIONAL VALUE FOR OUR STUDENTS, WITH ALL OF OUR THREE YEAR HIGHER EDUCATION COURSES PRICED AT UNDER £6,000 PER ANNUM FOR UK AND EU STUDENTS.

For most students studying a degree level course, tuition fees can be covered by a student loan from the Student Loans Company. BIMM continues to be able to offer loans through the Student Loans Company as we’ve been fully QAA assessed, which is required by the government in order for academic institutions to offer student loans on a continuing basis. Both UK and EU students are eligible to apply.

You can find out more information on the guidelines and how to apply for a student loan at: www.slc.co.uk

The government also provides useful information on student finance at:www.gov.uk/student-finance

If eligible, student loans for tuition fees provided by the Student Loan Company will cover a maximum of £6,000 of fees per annum. Where the annual course fees are in excess of £6,000, the balance must be paid by the student prior to enrolling each academic year.

REPAYMENTSYour loan repayments are linked to your income. You only make repayments when your income is above £21,000 a year, and if your income drops below this amount, repayments stop. Each month you pay back 9% of any income over £21,000 – this would work out at approximately £30 per month if you’re earning £25,000 per year.
